Lenovo Legion Slim 7i Gen 8 Review
I understand that Android will no longer be available on Windows. In fact, it is closed access and will be shut down at the end of the year. So, that is no longer a positive for Windows and lessens the tablet's ability. At this price, I recommend something like an X Elite HP or VIVOBOOK and a Tab S9 combo for a superior laptop and tablet experience.
does this camera has video autofocus??
Why no body test performance in android apps that on snapdragon windows machines?
We need an ongoing software incompatibility list for x86/x64 emulation on ARM as it’s important buyers are fully informed. E.g. Google Drive desktop client doesn’t run at all, which is a dealbreaker for many.
Will it do the same thing with the Zephyrus G16, last year and this year version too?
What case do you have on your surface?
Hi , great video as always with best wishes for the best ! Though pls can u make a comparison between the surface pro 11 oled with iPad Pro m4 oled ! I have a friend of mine who bought the iPad Pro m4 oled and he is not happy with the new oled screen, when he plays UA-cam or Netflix there is a slight green color or yellow on people skins, and this issue is with iPhones in general ,so hopefully wish to see a comparison between the both devices to see which is the best Oled screens and thank you 😃
Oled display is on the m4 iPad….
The screen specs alone are insane.
I still have surface pro 6 and super happy about it - so yes when i'll be able to afford 11 i'll do it
Thanks for the review, this is a pro camera.
How does this do with autdocad?
Thanks for suming up what make the surface a great device. Let's hope the Snapdragon platform will be upgraded over time
Hi Ed, I have a very silly question for you. I have this lens and love it very much, particularly how sharp it is. I have it paired with my A7RV and love all the detail it can capture. But there is a part of me that wonders is the 35 mm GM significantly sharper? I know that is both bright brighter and has fewer optical flaws, but is it also significantly sharper? Sharpness is my number one priority. Appreciate any and all detailed feedback you might be able to give. Regardless, thank you for your incredible content.
upgrade ram
I have a $350 Lenovo Chromebook that has excellent build quality, all aluminum body and an excellent screen and keyboard. It's hard for me not to recommend Lenovo laptops. The build quality is better than my $1400 Asus VivoBook pro OLED
I don’t see the benefit of getting this over the Surface Laptop. Like, I never see any videos highlighting the Surface Pro capabilities as a standalone tablet. Someone else brought up MS removed the “tablet mode” toggle from Windows as well. So seems like more a laptop than a tablet even from Microsoft’s perspective. I want to pick up one of these (Surface Pro or Laptop), but only benefit I see of this over the Laptop, is the availability of the OLED screen. What am I missing here?
Tablet mode is still there and can be set to automatic. It will change Taskbar to have more spacing and add collapsible mode. If you will always use it as a laptop with keyboard attached then sure laptop is better fit. Drawing with pen or reading magazines/docs, might be better use case without keyboard. It's also lot lighter than laptop without keyboard but go 4 is even lighter for that but not as powerful.
The reason tablet mode button is gone is that everything is now automatic and seamless. You can get the same window management feature via touch dedicated snapbar, and tablet-optimized taskbar is on when you use the device as a tablet
I really want a new Surface Go with X Plus or X Elite with 5G !!!!!
Does the Surface Pro match the performance of the Surface Laptop 15? or at least close? I am considering the Pro 11 but it's still kind of small and I'm not sure about the cooling.
The performance is about the same between the Pro 11 and Laptop 15 models. I got the base model ($999 with X Plus with 16GB ram and 256GB SSD, but I upgraded to a 1TB SSD). It's basically silent and runs at most lukewarm for my use cases (casual computing and software development). The fans turned on once while I was installing Visual Studio, but that installer makes Intel machines sound like they are preparing for lift off. 🤣
Hello, yoga Slim 7X X Elite 32GB vs M2 Pro 16GB Iam currently deciding which machine to get but aim kinda unsure. Iam a cs student and software developer and the machine should def be powerful enough for my workload.
I didn’t understand how you related this product to apple products, they can co exist , the market is large. Those is a different product than what apple do.
I'm sorry, but you are doing what a lot of youtube reviewers do. That is, assume everyone wants and needs a fully fledged computer!
I see a lot of commentary about iPadOS, especially from Mac-focused Apple pundits that is so wrong. Much of it is largely outdated and/or just a reflection of a lack of actual experience using the most recent versions of iPadOS. Additionally such commentary is often lacking in an awareness of what apps are now available on iPadOS. I make a living using the Affinity suite of design apps: Publisher, Designer, Photo and those are full "desktop class" apps on the iPad. I have no problem editing large spreadsheets with thousands of rows. I regularly create, update and manage client websites using a code editor called Textastic. And the M series iPad Pros have no problem editing 4K video with DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, and Luma Fusion. That's just a tiny sampling. I've been enjoying your videos (though I'm not a Windows user) but I do think the quality of the information you're sharing would benefit if you were more informed of what's possible with the latest iPadOS. I can't speak to the others as I have no experience there.
It made a lot of good points but then I got confused when I get confused when you say Apple doesn't offer any type of OLED they really do. And a offer mini LED as far as a computers go though I don't know if they offer any mini LED screens. In general I'm happy for the surface because they need to push the iPad forward or an iPad just needs to die. At this point pro iPass and iPad Air should have dual boot. If they don't want to do that they should have created a software that is a hybrid of both a computer and a tablet. Because we finally reached the point where you get to see a tablet do computer stuff to the fullest extent. No software holding them back. Also dare why we got the m4 instead of the M3 because of how good the chip was. They would have been behind and that's why I love competition because people have to do better when they up against better.
Since the micro led screens from the iPad Pro made their way to the MacBook pros screen….I would imagine they are going to replace the screens on the MacBooks with the tandem OLED screens….it could be this year….just saying
Watching it on my yoga 9i 2023 and absolutely loving it. 🥰
Darn i was hoping to get one of these for video editing but oh well back to laptops i go.
When Adobe PP is native, it will be interesting.
very close, Davinci resolve will be arm native in near future, it already is but many reported that it isn't great at the moment because it is still in beta. surface pro 11 is definitely my dream windows machine, but I'll wait for next x elite with more powerful gpu. also, there are rumors that Nvidia is working on an arm pc processor. I'll definitely wait for this to get extremely competitive.
I think you're not understanding why mobile OS tablets are where they are in comparison to Windows tablets; simplicity + apps designed around that. A mobile OS tablet + a laptop with a desktop OS is still the best combo. The master of none approach will always feel compromised.
Don't know why they don't do a more sturdy keyboard like the ipad one.
Can't wait for linux on x elite.
i have the Base model OLED. This thing is incredible. I am doing everything I did on my iPad and more. Great keyboard, great screen and stylus input methods. BTW Ai does not have to be a gimmick. The Live captions are really useful for YT content in other languages, as well as unsubbed anime.
Some people have been using this for 4K editing
This is gonna replace my iPad. It’s good, but the lack of desktop level software makes all of its power feel pointless
Chances are this device and others like this that comes out eventually will start shaking things up for the ipad.
@@kvnxyz hopefully it makes apple start taking iPadOS seriously, but I doubt it
The thing i notice in the comment section. Those who complain quite alot about this device are those who are not even the target audience like gamers and power user, and worst of all, those who cant afford it in the first place 😂😂. Dude seriously, if you cant even afford it then you are not the target audience. Better stick to a budget windows laptop or chromebook. Complaining wont reduce the price lmao. 😂😂 Better wait for next year or black friday sale.
Im using the Surface Go 4 to run my whole business. I use it 75% of the time without keyboard. The SP line got too heavy to use it in tablet mode tbh. I hope for a ARM Go 5 with a 11.5 inch screen but under 600g ... Hopefully with even bezels around all sides like the go 4 :)
exactly this, I am keeping my go 2 M3 and not getting any Surface until they can make something smaller and lighter (for use at home I have a desktop)
I know I’m not the only one who wants a 11 inch surface pro
The Go is an almost perfect device, my Go 2 fits in most travel bags, and even at 8GB it runs most of the applications I need well enough. I've had Core i9's that I've eventually sold, but my Go is staying!
I so wanted MS to deliver a tablet that can be used as a tablet. But regardless, the software does not deliver anything near an adequate touch environment. The Surface will always be a niche unit for those that want a super light laptop. Like a Swiss Army knife, it can get things done, but not efficiently.
It was a great idea in concept, the concept of windows 8. I was going stay in the Surface camp forever because I had a great experience without it first time around. The whole multi input PC with a cross platform OS idea was great. Smoothly executed in performance, but with missing features and a GUI that many didn’t like. Thus it ended up not working out! I liked where they could have gone, I genuinely did (being one of very few). But now… isn’t that dead? Isn’t it just a laptop with a laptop OS in the form of a tablet with a pen now? That’s my impression but I really don’t know. I might change my mind though. I will get back into checking it out in depth when upgrading my personal machine next time. It’s going to depend on how much point there is having a tablet form factor for windows 11 itself. How that experience feels. They need to polish things for once.
As it explains, it has been my tablet since a decade. My wife has had all flavors of iPad and I see no need to have an additional device. I would even argue that it is a better tablet form factor with the kickstand.
It woud be great if microsoft would create a skin/UI for windows optimized for touch input. Maybe increasing the icon size and text. An Optional or togglable feature or an auto activation if no keyboard is detected.
The need to rework they file explorer to work with touch, above all
Win11 does detect (default setting) when no keyboard is attached and increases spacing in Taskbar. Plus it changes to a collapsible mode that can be expanded by dragging up. Edge also has a touch mode that can be configured. Win11 also improved resizing windows with touch by showing larger border.
They are already doing exactly that since WinUI, e.g. prefer unigram over ordinary telegram app. Its apps that need to fix their touch-ignorance problem (looking at you, discord).
@@rockyiu7541 including Microsoft apps and even some Windows apps
@@luc7976 but very little happens with file explorer
now we need to wait for qualcomm pushing the performance to a level were you can use it for graphics and productivity, and microsoft releasing a bigger option. 13,5 is just too small for "real" productivity..
Surface laptop?
Waiting for the 5G version.
Can you bend the hinge 180° ? If not, touch screen losses half of the usability
In truth, the Surface Pro 9 hit the target from a performance standpoint. The battery aspect was still not great but I purchased an additional 65 watt charger. They are tiny and are no burden to carry around. These days, I rarely fire up my honking Xeon based desktop workstation, except to play a game or do some DB work.
I bought the iPad Pro 2024 with 1 TB of storage and the keyboard, because I thought iPadOS would be a little bit more optimised for desktop operations. I also use a MacBook Pro 2021 (14 inch) as my main device. I now bought the Surface Pro 11 OLED with 512 GB - I will test this and I hope the native ARM apps are more widespread. I came from a Surface Pro X, which by the way works like a charm, even after almost 4,5 years. Of course, it's slow compared to the MacBook and iPad Pro, but it's just with a 60 Hz screen and a pimped mobile SoC. Runs Windows 11 24H2 now.
$1k for a device(s) that isn’t x86 with all the software incompatibility and battery that only on par (if not slightly worse) than the competition is just ridiculous. I’m not even mentioning UI that isn’t developed for full touch gestures
If the competition you’re talking about is a MacBook, I’d understand your battery life statement. Compared to other Tablet PCs, this is 100 percent the best battery life. And emulated software performs well for the large majority of situations. That said, it might not just be for you
Just buy the Surface Pro 10 in that case.
While, contrary to Apple fans, I agree that Windows is usable for with touch (although file explorer is a pain to use), this Surface is not going to replace most iPads or even Android tablets... Because battery life is not everything, and size and weight play a big role when tablet use is important. There is no new Surface to compete with the iPad pro 11" and even the 13" is way lighter than this. Historically surface has appealed to people wanting a laptop first and a tablet occasionally and this is not much different. And the reason why I stopped buying surface pro after the 2 and 3 is because it's compromised as a laptop, it's not great on your lap, which is something I need often on the go. Now if they start making a 11" pro or a go with Arm then things could be different (my go 2 is the only surface I use as a tablet). And one last thing, the Samsung ultra keyboard is indeed what you called it (I have it), but the Magic Keyboard is excellent, you probably haven't owned one. Sure overpriced, but this wireless keyboard is probably overpriced too for what it costs to make.
Oh it’s definitely replacing my iPad
Luck for us, the Surface Pro has been improved through the years and is a very good device.
@@christianr.5868 good for you, I'll be waiting to see if they have something the size of my Surface go 2...
@@billymania11 Even the Surface pro 3 was a good device. But as a tablet I don't think the surface has made much progress over the years.
@@_Digitalguy this chip would be awesome in the surface go tbh
I'm curious if Surface on ARM will save the Surface line-up, which has been in freefall in revenue for the last two years and is now below 2017 levels. I always understood that the demise of Windows as a tablet was it was significantly subpar to Android and iPadOS, and even the flexibility of a full OS needed to be more to stop the rot; $1.8 billion in revenue fell in 2023 alone. Maybe a last-chance saloon? Anyway, when you can buy great tablets for $600, having a starting point of over $1000 makes it tough if you only want a tablet. Most people I know who need both use cases tend to buy a clamshell laptop and a tablet combo. People realise that compromising to have one less device to carry is not perfect. Even the ex-MS CEO said that making Windows a tablet hybrid was a billion-dollar mistake, with MS effectively becoming nobody in the tablet market and now seemingly giving up by killing off the Windows subsystem for Android. Do yourself a favour and buy the best laptop and tablet you can afford, and do not settle for a halfway house that compromises both. But let us still hope that Surface sales stop crashing and burning as they have some hardcore fans who love the device, and we need them to survive for that diminishing demographic.
Some of us love the Surface Pro but I would agree it's not for everybody. I'm glad Microsoft has stuck with the form factor.
IMO, the 11th Gen Surface Pro has solved 2 big issues for tablet use: Battery life and fan noise. Next, MS should prioritize form factor by making it lighter, and improve the UI for tablet use cases. Basically, they should ensure that it's fully usable in an enjoyable way via the touchscreen only for tablet-first users.
All these “Surface vs iPad vs tab s9” miss one absolutely crucial factor which absolutely wrecks the Surface’s viability as a tablet replacement; APPS!! More specifically steaming apps. The Netflix/Prime/Disney+ Windows app is absolutely garbage compared to the iOS or Android versions. Moreover, you don’t even have download functionality on them so you can’t even use them on a flight. (Netflix just announced that the Windows app will lose download functionality next month). This is a pretty major use case for tablets that the Surface (and any Wndows device) completely fails in.
But then you have to realize that it's windows and it won't take time to download those episodes
I use Plex anyway
uh, ok
@@IrfanShaikh-le7hbDo you mean downloading the content from Netflix on your hard drive?

This might be good, but the cost is a deal breaker 😂😂😂
Costs less than the 13 inch iPad Pro with double the ram
@@christianr.5868I think we need a screen comparison between the new iPad screen and this 😊
@@christianr.5868 doesn’t change the fact that it is still expensive. Everything cost less than something else out there
OLED inclusion is disappointing to me. I intend to stare at the same screen for most of the time while working and prefer light mode during the day for increased focus on text. Based on how SKUs were designed, that forces me into Snapdragon X Plus which then forces you into 16GB of RAM, in return this shortens the lifespan of the device and usability even for some programming workloads. Arguably most of the compute tasks already moved to cloud but still it is completely off the charts. I could not care less about OLED, not with the limitations it enforces I would still prefer IPS 11 our of 10 times someone asked
I actually didn’t consider that (I got the X Plus). It runs great though. Is the shortness in lifespan for you because you’d prefer more RAM or do you base on general last ability of Surface Pros (out of interest)? I’ve yet to have one break down on me. It granted my old SP5 got real bogged down over the years.
@@RemofRenaissance just the amount of RAM, in general all of my previous computers are still in perfect health but they are obsolete. In most of them I went with extra RAM in order to be future proof and it payed out. 16GB is considered absolute minimum for Copilot+ PC and - at least for now - we rely on a lot of emulation - which needs a lot of RAM in the first place. In 2 or 3 years we might be looking at 32GB as a base. Could you describe your general workload to me a bit if you do not mind? I am still a bit on the edge but leaning towards getting the base SKU with X Plus and older signature keyboard. Just for general productivity and maybe extremely light gaming on the roads like Order of Battle II. Pen input together with performance during productivity tasks will be more important to me.
@@dominikondrasek Sure, workload is very basic. So lots of productivity in Office 365 but mixed with data analysis which would be datasets / databases, very often hundreds of thousands of rows or close to a million and using a reporting software for visuals on the data such as Microsoft Power BI. It can actually get quite RAM intensive. Some prefer to get Macs and run through emulation. This is the first time it has ran real smooth on any computer. So nothing graphical. Just a load of data analysis. On the older Surface Pros it would bottle neck as the fans would start spinning, the machine would get real hot.... But I knew RAM would be ok for now as the workload could get handled with 16GB. Probably I am doing the odd bit of memory swapping. My plan is maybe 2 years from now change the hard drive to something faster and that may eek out another year. I see base model as a 3 to 4 year machine.
@@RemofRenaissance it perfectly fits my use case this year then, even the base SKU which resolves the OLED "trouble". Thank you very much :)
@@dominikondrasek No worries and just so you know the Surface Pro 9 also handled this workload well. But I saw this as an opportunity to fix the battery issue (not lasting long) and it did plus a performance bump. Power BI runs through emulation but still faster than the X86 chips in the SP9. I don’t generally update machines quickly so this was a one off.
Every year that Apple releases a new ipad its fanboys and the tech community cry how "it still just and ipad, with same limitations" in the surface line theres no such thing you have full programs that you can run not miniture apps.
